I was a brand new commissioned officer, and came as the assistant comptroller. LTJG (later LT) Little. I cut my financial management teeth there, as I was just recently out of grad school. I remember Capt Martinson quite well; I frequently met with her on fiscal issues, and as Department Head on a couple of Captain’s Masts as well. She was a somewhat unpleasant person, and I was glad when she transferred out.

That’s a long time ago. I live in NY now, and have been back to see the missing hospital and the shopping area that replaced it. I was very saddened, because my head filled with memories of good times (and bad). I shipped out to Key West for my second tour.

While I was there in Philly, , the Cptn had a couple of close companions, so I’m not sure which one you’re referring to; likely someone before I got there. I had no issue at all with her private life; I’ve never cared about stuff like that. But she simply wasn’t likable. The wrong kind of toughness.

If you read this, and you’re still alive lol, and you want to chat sometime about life there, I’m at TimothyScottLittle@gmail.com. I also have a picture of the hospital on my birth certificate. My dad, Jerry A. Craven, was a chief radioman in the U.S. Navy. He was transferred to San Francisco when I was three months old, and retired from active duty after 22 years. Well, here’s my story. I was born at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital in July 1961, had two eye surgeries there in 1965 and 1967, and got my broken collarbone fixed (yes, falling off a bike while riding with no hands on the handlebars) in 1970. As a little kid, you are always amazed by the size of any building but this one stands out. It was huge and the corridors were endless! After one of my eye surgeries, I was having lunch an hour from being released but a corpsman insisted that I finish my green beans before I left. I quickly buried them under some bread and got out as fast as I could. To this day, I still don’t like green beans but I am thankful for all of the corpsmen, nurses, docs, and staff who brought me into this world and repaired me along the way. Ironically, I joined the Navy and was eventually discharged from the Philadelphia Naval Base. Another nugget, I was aboard the USS America in the 80’s and after her decommissioning, she sat in Philly waiting for her demise. My daughter joined me as we watched the America towed out to sea for her last voyage. Thank you for listening! He was in a serious car accident around the holidays as far as I can remember. I was only 3 1/2. He was taken to the Philia., Naval Hospital he stayed there until his death 19 August 1960. One visit with my mom and me he mentioned he had another son, Anthony. He said the mother was French. We new nothing of Anthony and still do not now. My mom passed and my other brother passed as well I have been looking for clues on Anthony for years. My fathers name was Richard V. “Mike” Cordova. He was only 30. If anyone knew him or has any clues on a last name for Anthony I would really love to have it. I took a DNA test it is listed with Ancestry. I just keep praying he gets linked to me that way.
